James Preston Coleman III

Sept 1, 1963 - July 1, 2017

James P. Coleman III, (Little Jimmy), suddenly departed this world at the young age of 54 on July 1, 2017. He was the second of three children born to the parents of James and Mary Jane Coleman.  He was proudly named after his grandfather and father and he carried the name well. James was eighteen months apart from his older sibling Renee’, who was overjoyed with the birth of her younger brother because she finally had a “live baby doll” to take care of and there are many pictures with Renee’ holding, feeding and caring for her baby brother.  He was a proud and protective big brother to his baby sister, Alicia, who followed in her brother’s footsteps and attended Tuskegee University as a result of his insistence that she attend an HBCU. This family legacy was also later continued by his nephew Torrent Taylor who also graduated from Tuskegee in May of 2010. At Tuskegee, James pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Gamma Phi chapter and became a Mason. James graduated from Tuskegee University in May of 1988 with a Degree in Computer Science/Economics.

James was very influential in the life of his nephew, Torrent, and left an indelible impact in the lives of others. Those who knew James described him as having a “sweet soul and spirit.” He was a proud an loyal son of “Mother Tuskegee” and made the city his home.

James is survived by his Father James P. Coleman Jr., sisters Renee’ J. Taylor and Alicia J. Ward, his nephews, Torrent Taylor Jr. and Christoffer Michael Ward, niece, Amani Joi Ward and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends along with his loyal fraternity brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

His loving family takes comfort in knowing that he is not in pain anymore, there is no more suffering and we rejoice for he is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and in the loving arms of our Mother, Mary Jane Coleman.

The family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of love and condolences that we have received during this most difficult time. Honoring the wishes of our ailing father, James’ body will be cremated and returned to Florida and his life will be celebrated and memorialized at a date to be determined. Condolences and well wishes can be sent to his sisters: Renee’ Taylor (2520 NW 99th Ave, Coral Springs, Florida 33065) or Alicia Ward (127 Central Park Lane, Powder Springs, GA 30127).
